Dental implants, dentures and implant dentures can help improve your smile, your confidence, your oral health and your overall health.
Did you know that not replacing a missing tooth or teeth can actually impact your dental and overall health? Missing teeth can compromise the stability and health of the all the surrounding teeth, and over time, teeth can shift and drift, which can ultimately affect your bite. A missing back tooth will result in more shifting than a front tooth will cause. In addition, missing teeth can leave you more prone to gum disease. Furthermore, your teeth try to compensate for the missing tooth causing the remaining teeth to elongate, move or protrude, which can eventually lead to additional tooth loss. Missing teeth can also affect the appearance of your face—giving you a shrunken or older appearance as your facial muscles relax from their proper position.
Dental implants, dentures and implant dentures can help.
About dental implants
Dental implants are a long-term, permanent solution to replace a missing tooth. A dental implant can be an excellent option that looks and feels like a natural tooth. Surgically placed below the gum line, the dental implant looks like a screw and serves as the base for a replacement tooth.
About implant dentures or bridges
Working in conjunction with dental implants, implant-supported dentures or bridges can give you a secure fit that is more comfortable and stable than conventional dentures or bridges alone. The denture or bridge is supported by and attached to dental implants. Since the denture or partial rests on the dental implant instead of the gums, it tends to fit more securely and comfortably in your mouth—allowing you to eat, laugh, smile and sneeze with confidence.
Dentures
Dentures or bridges can be used when a permanent tooth or teeth are lost. Dentures or bridges are made to look like your natural teeth so that there will be little change in your appearance. Eating will take a little practice since your denture may shift. Even with dentures, regular dental visits are important as is brushing your gums, tongue and palate every day to maintain optimal oral health.
